Ingredients

  • 0.67 cup shortening
  • 0.67 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1.5 cups white sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a stand mixer, beat the shortening and softened butter together until creamy (2-3 minutes).
  3. Add the white sugar and blend well.
  4. Mix in the eggs one at a time and add the vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually combine the dry mixture into the wet ingredients until a dough forms.
  7. Roll the dough into walnut-sized balls and coat with colored sugar.
  8. Place the sugar-coated dough balls on ungreased cookie sheets, spaced 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until lightly browned on the bottoms.
  10. Remove and transfer cookies to wire racks to cool.
