A simple and rewarding recipe for freshly baked sourdough bread with a unique tangy flavor.
Ingredients

- 4 cups (500g) bread flour or all-purpose flour
- 1⅔ cups (375g) warm water
- 1 cup (200g) active sourdough starter
- 2 teaspoons (10g) salt
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and warm water. Stir until a shaggy dough comes together.
- Let the dough rest for 30 minutes.
- Add sourdough starter and salt. Mix thoroughly until no dry flour remains.
- Cover and let it sit for fermentation at room temperature.
- Perform a set of stretch and folds every 30 minutes for the next 2 hours.
- After the last fold, cover and let it rise for 6 to 8 hours until doubled and bubbly.
- Transfer to a floured surface, shape the dough into a loaf, and place it seam-side up into a proofing basket.
- Cover and refrigerate for 8 to 12 hours.
- Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C) with a Dutch oven inside.
- Turn out the dough onto parchment, score the top, and lower into the Dutch oven.
- Bake covered for 20 minutes, then remove the lid and bake uncovered for 25 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
Ensure your sourdough starter is active for the best results. Experiment with different types of flour for varied flavors.
