- 2 cups sugar

- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1/2 cup butter
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a large baking sheet.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and baking soda until blended.
- In another bowl, combine buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry mixture and stir to combine.
- In a separate bowl, melt cocoa powder in boiling water until smooth, then mix it into the batter.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- For the frosting, melt butter and stir in cocoa powder. Add milk and mix in powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Spread the frosting over the warm cake and top with nuts if desired.
