Description

These delightful Thumbprint Heart Cookies combine a soft, buttery base with a fruity jam center, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup lightly packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg (or a flax mixture for a vegan alternative)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup jam of your choice (strawberry, raspberry, apricot, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and brown sugar using an electric mixer on high until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg (or flax mixture) and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  4. Gradually add in the all-purpose flour and salt, blending until a soft dough forms.
  5. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place on the prepared baking sheet, about 1½ inches apart.
  6. Gently press your thumb or the back of a teaspoon into the center of each ball twice to create heart-shaped indents.
  7. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Reshape any indentations if needed.
  9. Once cooled, spoon a small dollop of jam into each heart-shaped center.

Notes

Chill the dough for about 30 minutes before rolling for better shape retention while baking.
