Description

Delightful thumbprint heart cookies filled with jam, perfect for sharing on special occasions.


Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup lightly packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg (or flax mixture for a vegan option)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup jam of your choice (strawberry, raspberry, or any favorite flavor!)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream the softened butter and brown sugar together using an electric mixer on high until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  4. Add the flour and salt gradually, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  5. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them onto the prepared baking sheet, maintaining about 1½ inches of space between each ball.
  6. Press your thumb or the back of a teaspoon into the center of each ball twice to create a heart-shaped indent.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. If the indents have filled in, gently reshape them while still warm.
  9. Once completely cooled, spoon a small dollop of your favorite jam into each heart-shaped center.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze in a freezer-safe container.
