Description
Light and fluffy pastries dusted with powdered sugar, evoking nostalgia for New Orleans cafés.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk (or almond milk for dairy-free)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- In another bowl, beat the eggs, and then whisk in the milk and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients. Stir until a soft dough forms – don’t overmix!
- In a deep fryer or large pot, heat vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
- Carefully drop spoonfuls of dough into the hot oil, frying until each side is golden brown (about 2-3 minutes per side).
- Once cooked, remove the beignets from the oil and drain on paper towels. Generously dust with powdered sugar while they’re still warm.
- Serve and enjoy while they’re fresh!
Notes
Dust with powdered sugar and serve with chocolate sauce or fruit compote for added flavor. Best enjoyed fresh.
