Vanilla French Beignets

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Light and fluffy pastries dusted with powdered sugar, evoking nostalgia for New Orleans cafés.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk (or almond milk for dairy-free)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. In another bowl, beat the eggs, and then whisk in the milk and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients. Stir until a soft dough forms – don’t overmix!
  4. In a deep fryer or large pot, heat vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Carefully drop spoonfuls of dough into the hot oil, frying until each side is golden brown (about 2-3 minutes per side).
  6. Once cooked, remove the beignets from the oil and drain on paper towels. Generously dust with powdered sugar while they’re still warm.
  7. Serve and enjoy while they’re fresh!

Notes

Dust with powdered sugar and serve with chocolate sauce or fruit compote for added flavor. Best enjoyed fresh.
