Description
A creamy, cheesy twist on the classic green bean casserole, combining fresh green beans, garlic, and Parmesan for a delicious side dish.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1.5 lbs fresh green beans, trimmed
- 4 tbsp butter
- 1 small yellow onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 (6 oz) can crispy fried onions, divided
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Steam or boil the green beans until they’re crisp-tender, about 5-7 minutes. Drain well and set aside.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook for approximately 5 minutes until softened.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- Stir in the flour and mix until smooth. Gradually whisk in the milk until you achieve a creamy consistency. Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring constantly.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens. Then stir in the Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper.
- Toss the green beans in the creamy sauce until well coated.
- Pour the mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish, and top with half of the crispy fried onions.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until heated through and bubbly.
- Sprinkle the remaining crispy fried onions over the top and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown.
- Let stand for a few minutes before serving.
