Description

A delightful twist on traditional French toast using soft, sweet King’s Hawaiian Rolls for a quick and kid-approved breakfast treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (12-pack) King’s Hawaiian Rolls
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup half-and-half or whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 4 tablespoons butter (for cooking)
  • Powdered sugar, fresh fruit, and maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the eggs and half-and-half in a large bowl until smooth.
  2. Add vanilla extract, cinnamon, brown sugar, and salt, mixing until combined.
  3. Poke holes in the bottom of each Hawaiian roll using a toothpick or skewer.
  4. Soak each roll in the custard mixture for about 30 seconds, ensuring all sides are coated.
  5. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a nonstick skillet over medium-low heat.
  6. Cook the rolls for 30–60 seconds on each side until golden and crispy.
  7. Remove and serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar, and accompanied by fresh berries and maple syrup.

Notes

For a twist, consider adding chocolate hazelnut spread, pumpkin puree, or even zest from citrus fruits to the custard.
